How to survive your first week at college…

Blonde student worried about exams

So, it’s your first week at college – pretty daunting, huh? It can be a lot to take in – new course, new people and a new environment. HAVE NO FEAR!! We have pulled together a few top tips to make sure your first week at Forth Valley College is a good one.

First of all, you’ve got to make sure that you’re organised. Do you have a pen? Notepad? Make sure that you’ve got the basics to start off with. After a few weeks on your course, you’ll find out if you need anything else.

“I DON’T KNOW WHERE I AM GOING” … we have all been there. Give yourself enough time to get to your classes and make sure you know what room you’re supposed to be in. Can’t find the room? Ask a member of staff on campus, they’ll be able to point you in the right direction. If you’re unsure on the best way to get to college, check out our travel info on the website here.

I know from previous experiences that even the smallest things will bug your brain when you’re starting something new like ‘where will I eat my lunch?’… we have a canteen on each campus which means you can buy something to eat or bring your own lunch and eat it here.

Maybe you’re worried about not knowing anyone? There’s plenty of people in the exact same position as you on their first day at college. Get to know the people in your class or speak to the Student Association to see what else you can get involved in. The Student Association have an office on each campus and can be found here!

If there’s anything that you’re unsure about, speak to your lecturer or the Student Association. They’ll either be able to help you or point you in the right direction of someone who can.

We have a dedicated section on our website with helpful student info, you can check it out here.
