Megan Kay (18, Falkirk), a student on the College’s NC Early Education & Childcare course, has just been appointed as Executive Officer for the Forth Valley Student Association (FVSA).
We grabbed a quick chat with her.
What made you apply for the post?
I popped in to the Student Association as I was interested in running a course which would help promote understanding of how to help those with personality disorders.
I was encouraged to apply for the post as it would provide an opportunity to increase awareness of mental health issues and help available.
How do you feel about securing the post?
I’m really nervous but also excited. There will be lots of opportunities to make positive change.
What’s your key priorities now that you’re now in post?
My biggest aim is to raise awareness of mental health and make more students aware of support for personal issues which may affect their time at College.
Do you have any previous experience of campaigning?
I was a member of the Scottish Youth Parliament – I acted as a voice for young people and raised any issues which were impacting on their wellbeing.
Have you always wanted to study childcare?
My little brother has additional support needs and I’ve always wanted to work with children who need additional support.
Good luck to Megan in her new role!
