It’s that time of year again, when we welcome new and previous students back in through the doors of our campuses. This year however, is unlike any before. A little change can make a big difference!
I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to any new Forth Valley College students and to tell you all a little bit about me.
I am Andrew Smirthwaite, the Student President of Forth Valley Student Association.
That may not mean much to you if you are a brand new student or an existing student with no experience of working with or engaging with the Student Association. More simply, I’m Andrew. I was originally a student on the BSC Applied Computing Partnership degree course (another name for a software development).
During my time as a student, I felt there were changes that could be made in order to better support us as students and to help us make the most of our time at college. So, in March of 2019, I ran in the Student Association elections for the position of Student President.
The SA is a small team and consists of a President and Vice President, both elected posts, and three additional members of staff. Our job is to make sure that the College is working for you, the students, and that you feel supported and represented during your time here.
We host some fun events throughout the year as well, the main one normally being Fresher’s Fair.
This can’t happen in its usual form this year but we are putting together plans to hold a virtual event, with goodies and prizes so make sure you follow us on social media for more details.
As you know, we have had to make alterations as an organisation before welcoming students and staff back on campus. The changes in how things are going to work moving forward have been implemented to keep you and our staff safe. There will be a period of adjustment and some obstacles to overcome along the way but that is where we come in. We can help to facilitate conversations with relevant staff members and work with you to try to make your journey as easy and positive as possible.
We will be operating a limited campus presence over the coming weeks but our ‘virtual’ door is always open and you can reach us using the details below:
