Students make link between activities to promote mental wellbeing

Mental health can have a big impact on a student’s learning experience, therefore Forth Valley College’s Learning Support Team spoke to students on World Mental Health Day 2019 and asked them “What do you do when you feel your mental health is being challenged?”

Their responses were noted down on strips of paper which were then linked to form a paper chain of ideas, tried, tested and student led.  Thanks to everyone who took part and shared their ideas, here are some of the suggestions shared:

  • Playing video games
  • Walking the dog – this was a very popular suggestion!
  • Gravity blanket
  • Speaking with someone you don’t know (in person)
  • Speaking to someone who will just listen
  • Puzzles
  • You Tube
  • Mindfulness
  • Sleep apps
  • Enjoying my favourite meal
  • Drawing and colouring in
  • Music
  • Speaking out about things bothering you
  • Getting a tattoo
  • Punch a pillow
  • Using a Fidget Cube
  • Visiting family
